I try to establish relationships and always give a helping hand and this can be very beneficial when you are not expecting anything back. Due to helping out my friend Ramon Morales (@guarionex88) with my favorite LinkedIn Group “Friends of Puerto Rico/Amigos de Puerto Rico”.
Last summer I was privileged enough to get a great gift from the creator and founder of the group (and good friend of mine) Ramon Morales (@guarionex88) an audio book called Groundswell: Winning in a World Transformed by Social Technologies( <-- Amazon Affiliate link). co authored by Charlene Li (@charleneli). Ramon had mentioned that Charlene was a very approachable and knowledgeable person. Ramon met her at a conference and was impressed by her, one of the reasons he bought multiple copies for himself, friends, and acquaintances. After that moment I had dedicated myself to read her blog postings and tweets.
I’ll be happy to send you a galley of the book if you can show any one of the following:
Write a blog about business leadership, strategy, marketing, social media with demonstrated audience engagement (e.g. comments)
Have a Twitter account with at least 1,000 followers and comment primarily about the above issues.
Can make a case why you should get a galley.
After I did all the above I made my Case. I have a passion for reading and understanding Social Media so this sounded like a great offer.
The next day I received an alert that @charleneli had started following me on twitter which to me it is a huge privilege since I really admire most of her work. ( Another interesing fact is that @charleneli i only follows around 252 twitter accounts and is followed by 34,690 based on count of May 12, 2010). I did not think of much until last Monday I received the book via mail, which I quickly started to read.
Charlene can’t imagine how excited and delighted I am that she choose me to receive one of the few Review Copies and how useful it came out to be today when I could already use some of her examples to explain the benefits of Social Media to non Tech savvy possible customers.
I am very grateful of @charleneli’s action and I can say like always that @guarionex88 was completely right.
So far I have taken random notes and I have seen the following interesting points throughout the book which I plan to write blog post about with my point of view in the near future:
Open Leadership is about how leaders must let go to gain more.
To not enter into Open Relationships without guidelines.
Ensuring to have a Coherent Strategy
The Power of youtube when a Musician has Broken Guitars.
Openness Accountability
Focusing on Sales Alone Obscures the need to create a relationship
The Engagement Pyramid
My Favorite Quote of the book was defining Open Leadership in @charleneli’s words “ having the confidence and humility to give up the need to be in control while inspiring commitment from people to accomplish goals”.
If you find these points I found interesting I still have a lot to read and analyze from this great book which seems to be a great guideline for business using Social Media or trying to use it effectively. Join me in the read by ordering your own copy or buying a few for clients and friends.
I will be also posting on my progress and insight about the book on this blog.
In conclusion just some help offered to someone who has become a very close friend landed me having the opportunity to read and be part of these two great books.
I have enclosed the following Amazon Affiliate links if you would like to order the book online.
