Importance of Resonance in Your Social Media Efforts

Resonance

One of the subjects that has been going around the web these last few days has been “Resonance”. On the second week of April while I assisted the @chirp conference in San Francisco I heard a lot of Buzz around “Resonance”. At that moment twitter had made public their next steps (moving into “Promoted Tweets”) into making Twitter and income earning engine.

One of the interesting facts of Resonance for “Promoted Tweets” was the measurement factors was that Twitter did not disclose all of the 9 factors they where using.

Some of the factors are:
  • Number of users that view a tweet.
  • Number of users that responded to a tweet or forwarded the tweet to their followers.
  • Number of people that clicked on the link enclosed in a tweet.
  • Number of times a keyword using a search engine lands or interacts with a tweet.
  • Number of times a tweet interacts with a tweet.
The purpose of these factors is to only have promoted tweets that are of interest to many in the twitter eco-system.
There are many ways to view and analyze tweets.

I can think of other factors that can be very beneficial to your social media presence including other channels.
I see many people running social media efforts using all Marketing gimmicks to early on reach a conclusion that Social Media is of no benefit to them. I think that one of the key parts of the equation is looking into how they will measure their effort. Myself given my background in Accounting from my degree and the first few years of my
career I am a numbers guy (although not as much as before). I analyze my efforts and try to tie them to something I can plan with.

Benefits of Measuring Resonance of Your Posts
1.     Reach a Bigger Audience – By giving your followers or friends what they are interested in, brands can reach out to other users in their networks who are probably interested in your brand or products also.

2.     Keeping Your Audience – If you take into consideration that people that follow you or choose to connect with you easily can disconnect or lose interest very quickly you need to monitor your growth and try to tie to your current events or efforts. By identifying in your timeline when you grew followers or lost them you might be able to identify what you did right or wrong. This can also help you in gauging what your audience wants.
A tool so you can measure your growth on twitter is Twittercounter.com I did write a post on Twitpuerto.com (this post is in Spanish).

3.     Measuring the Reach of Your Tweets – By measuring the reach of your tweets you can also get an understanding on how far your tweet might be traveling. One easy way to get this done is going into tweetreach.com and entering your twitter user info. It should take a few seconds or minute (depending on how far your tweets traveled in the twitter eco-system). Once you do that you will have a free report of your last 50 tweets (maximum).

4.     Establish Metrics – As you see there are many ways to measure your resonance. It is key for you to establish your own metrics for your brand and your objectives. I am going to give you an example, recently a group of developer friends @aartiles24 & @javierburon launched a website called Followfriday.com which measures how many #followfriday’s users, people, or brands receive online (see my blog post on my raulcolon.net). I can see this metric as one to tie how engaged your audience is with you when on Friday they decide to ask their followers to follow you.

What metrics do you use on twitter or other channels to measure your resonance and impact on them?
